A complaint for winter backpackers about cuben is that in snow, cuben has the disadvantage of tending to build up snow because it's not near as slippery as silnylon or silpoly. Mylar and polyester are similar plastic based materials. Polyester fabrics have been treated with silicone in both a silnylon like manner, and with an EPIC treatment, to good affect. Are there easy ways around this, ways to increase the slipperyness of cuben? I ask because i have a MLD cuben solomid that i plan to use this winter, and while the area i backpack in doesn't typically receive a lot of snow in a consistent sense, occasionally we get some doozies. I've done some experimentation with treating fabrics with a thinned silicone slurry. However, that involves using paint thinner. I'm not sure i want to put that on cuben or not. (my concern is with it possibly dissolving or interacting with the inner glue, and weakening the bond). I've thought about a temporary fix of just using some cheap silicone DWR spray, or some other DWR spray. This would also add less weight than my slurry method, which puts a significantly thicker coat of silicone on. My question is, would such a treatment even last a short trip, say 3 days of snow?
