Lightweight high insulating layer needed for the tall

Well, I'm almost 6'5", so I've been thru this too.

I agree, some MontBell gear runs a little short in the torso. Though I have a size XL Thermawrap that is OK in length but too wide for me.

Some things that have worked for me.

Patagonia R1 Hoody – very long torso and sleeves – really good for cold weather aerobic activity, but not an insulating fill layer. Get an XL if you are tall – it has a trim fit so won't be too big if you are thin like me.

Integral Designs Rundle Jacket – this is a new jacket just coming out in Spring 08. Very warm, a little heavy (17 ounces in XL). PL Sport Insulation.

REI Spruce – PL1 insulation, removable sleeves, pretty good torso length. Not super light either, due to zippers on the removable sleeves.

The GoLite down jackets have good length too, but I've found the GoLite synthetic insulation jackets to be short torsoed.

Aren't parkas usually longer than regular jackets? If so, look at the montbell parka?

Most of that stuff won't work either as I have a long torso and need something over 30" in length.

Not as fancy but you could look at something like Cabelas Insulator Jacket

YEP. Cabela's Insulator is a good bet. Their name brand clothing always has good quality.
