It seems at some point the piece of metal that stops the zipper and the zipper head have come off my jacket and I am looking for new pieces but they are 2mm and I can't find them anywhere. Suggestions?

I just sew over the end a few times with some heavy button thread. Works every time. Cheers

if you're replacing entire zipper, use #3 thru-hiker has some I think. or owfinc or questoutfitters yeah, what Roger says, loops of heavy thread. Owfinc said that too.

not necesarily especially if you're replacing the zipper – the fabric is already folded into the right position and everything I hate it when there's a large gap between the zipper teeth and the fabric – room for air and water to leak. Make the fabric butt up to zipper teeth. If it overlaps the teeth, at some point you'll have a problem, but it has to overlap by a bit.

Sewing zippers is easy, but you do need a zipper foot. It's making the ends look really neat that sometimes take a bit of ingenuity. A little scrap of fabric over the end works wonders. Sliders you can buy from lots of places already mentioned. Cheers
