I'm currently shopping for a new pack, and I'm going to get a ULA (Ohm or Conduit?). I called Brian over at ULA to see about the possibility of pictures of the Ohm going up on the website. He has informed me that the materials that he would like to use to produce that pack are not going to be available to him. It appears that the Ohm is going to be scrapped.

Back to the Conduit. Just an FYI.

The Ohm was to have been made of 1.9 oz ripstop nylon Dyneema Gridstop. I find it hard to imagine that this material – so basic to all ULA packs – is no longer available. I suspect there's another reason.

Brian didn't happen to say when he plans to up-date his website, did he? It is still showing the "WE'RE CLOSED" front page.

That was looking like a good potential pack for summer walks in South Australia for me…2lbs of gear, few days of ready to eat food, and the rest water. (would still be pushing the recommended weight limits, but thats often what I do). Good small SUL volume, with some potential for weight carrying.

"1.9 oz ripstop nylon, Dyneema Gridstop, and ULA's proven construction methods insure the Ohm is built to last despite its minimal weight."

By that paragraph, I would have thought that it is just standard 1.9oz ripstop nylon, and their normal dyneema gridstop reinforcements? There must be something else going on here.

I reckon alot of people, if they were waiting on this, will be mighty dissapointed.

Please Joe, say it ain't so. Brian please tell us this isn't true.

Taken from the ULA FAQ page:

….

Q: When is this pack going to be available? Why are you so incredibly lazy Brian?

A: First off, my apologies with regard to the OHM. I am not in the business of creating gear that no one can actually purchase, but due to unforeseen SCC (supply chain circumstance) the OHM Pack has been delayed much longer than all of us would like. So…back to the question of availability: the Ohm will not be available until the materials I want to use in the pack are available. As of today, November 28, 2007 that is still undetermined. As for my laziness, it is a condition of simply being human.

That's a real disappointment. From the early news on this pack I was pretty convinced the OHM was going to be a pack well worth waiting for. I'd sure like to hear from Brian if waiting is still an option, because I still want one.

I agree. I thought that this would give me another thing to consider against the Conduit. Oh well.

If it's worth waiting for, it'll be worth more, since you'll be waiting longer.

For what its worth, I love my Conduit unconditionally. Its right at the top of my list of favorite gear. I can't imagine carrying anything else.

that answers that. I'll just continue to use my Conduit until the Ohm becomes available. I can't say I'm disappointed at all, but it's too bad for those that were waiting on it.
