My brother and I did a 4 night trip to the Beartooth Wilderness in the second week of September. We had great weather the entire trip, with temperatures in the mid 60s to low 70s during the day and in the upper 30s at night. We had one night that dropped to 31 degrees. We started at the Chief Jospeh trailhead close to Cooke City and finished at Beartooth Lake. This was our first time to the Beartooths and I can say that it completely lived up to my expectations. The high elevation plateau surrounded by beautiful peaks and countless lakes was so unique. And the fishing was spectacular. We brought our tenkara rods and had a lot of fun fishing the lakes. Being the second week of September we basically had the place to ourself. We didn't even see anyone on the trails until our third day and all total I'd guess we ran into less than 10 people in the backcountry over the 4 days. I just recently purchased a Zpacks Arc Blast 50 and this was the maiden voyage for the pack. These things aren't cheap but man did it perform well. Given how plentiful water was in the area I wasn't ever carrying that much weight, sub 20 lbs most of the time, but I hardly felt the pack. I'm super happy with my purchase and if I get a few mins I'll try to post some additional thoughts in the gear forum. On the last day we exited the wilderness pretty early and did a whirlwind tour of Yellowstone. Yellowstone is amazing but after driving through the park I was happy with our decision to backpack in the Beartooths. The mountain scenery, coupled with the alpine lakes is really unique in the Beartooths and set it apart from Yellowstone. I put together a video of some of the highlights of our trip in case folks want to get a better feel for the area and trip. https://youtu.be/7ay6FvuaxI0 -Skip

Thanks for sharing. It is my favorite place to walk in the wilderness.

Nice trip :) I've spent a lot of time hiking (and fishing) in the Beartooths- it's never disappointed. September is a great month to explore the area (doesn't hurt to wear clothing a little on the bright side as hunting season is going).
