I am an avid 58 year backpacker who has wanted to do the JMT years. I am a Physician and 2 weeks is maximum vacation I can take. Enjoy hiking 10-12 miles daily. 2015 trip was the Wind River Big Sandy -Haily Pass- Washakie Pass-Texas Pass written about in BPL. My wife insists I have at least one other hiker on this trip. I hope to do the southern JMT the following year. I am open to starting in Yosemite or Vermillion Resort. John Schutzman

I have just updated my profile. I have been more of a reader than participant in BPL in the past.
Im interested. Also work in the healthcare industry so I understand the time constraints. Your pm still seems to not be set up. Email me at sean_eric_thompson at yahoo
Hi Sean, I believe Al just emailed you our email addresses. We will keep you in the loop. John
I too can only take two weeks off and I am determined to get on the JMT. Is starting at Red's and going traditional SOBO an option? I am just now starting to get into planning and I am open for any suggestions. I will be going during this same time frame as my 40th falls on Aug. 23 and this is my gift to self. Thanks in advance!
We are open to the south bound option. The advantage to the northbound option is that it should be easier to get permits entering at Vermilion Resort (BIGGEST REASON). It would also be nice to end in the Yosemite Valley. There is a shuttle from Fresno to the Vermilion Resort. Thanks for your interest. John
I too am interested , was originally planning to finish an interrupted trip from 2 years ago (partner had major medical problem and we had to hike out at Agnew Meadows in Mammoth area). Original plan was to go from Reds Meadow to Whitney and out. somewhere in that August window. Â Plan is 7/8 days start to finish, even have someone lined up to bring supplies to trail to avoid the out and back disruption .
I live out in California , very flexible with dates but have to be back to work by end of August , beginning September depending on Grape Harvest onset….
Hi Michael,
We are starting Monday August 15 at Vermillion Resort. We will be heading north to Yosemite using the Mono Creek Trail. I will be arriving in Fresno Sat. August 13. Â We anticipate finishing at or before August 25. We are applying for permits individually using the Prather, CA ranger station.
Thanks for your interest, Â John
