I'm brand new to this form. Just paid my forum membership fee about 30 minutes ago! This place looks like a wealth of info and I have a feeling I just started down a rabbit hole… Over the next couple months I am planning on lightening my pack weight from around 20 lbs to somewhere in the 12-13 lbs range. This will be for 3 season camping. I started with my cook kit. I picked up an Imusa 12 cm pot and a Fancee Feest last night (Shug fan). You can see on my list what is next to purchase by things with the description "future item." If anyone has experience with any of my future items and wants to chime in let me know! It is a learning process! :) https://www.geargrams.com/list?id=27314

Looks like a great start. Any reason you chose the double rainbow over the smaller one?
Nice list! The EE Revelation as a future purchase is a good choice. I use a Revelation and love it. To be honest I keep the footbox zipped up every time to the point I plan on getting an Enigma. Still, it's nice to have options. Any reason you want the Xtherm over the Xlite? I read your blog post on your NCT/MRT loop trip. Glad you liked it. I backpack that loop a lot.
I have a couple of reasons. 1 – My girlfriend comes with my on most of my trips, so the extra space for her and her gear will be needed. 2. When I make camp I basically explode my gear inside the tent, so when I am solo having the room for that feels good. The Double Rainbow is only 7 oz more than the single, so the weight penalty is worth it.
I decided on the Xtherm because I'd like a pad I can use any time. I have a friend who is hinting at winter camping some time, so I have a feeling a 4 season pad will be a good investment.
All good choices then. The xtherm is really, really warm. You can feel the warmth radiating out of it pretty quickly after lying down on it. If you use it with a Z lite sol underneath it in winter its crazy you'll never be cold (With a proper sleeping bag of course)
