I know Epic is pretty much gone but is there a fabric out there that is being used that has a high water and wind repellency that is native to the fabric and not a DWR coating? Thank you.

See Schoeller fabrics. Epic is still around (I just got a sleeping bag using Epic and it's available at Wild Things).

Giro explicitly advertises using Epic in their New Road gear. Patagonia Houdini is just like Epic. Any of the waxed canvas is essentially old school Epic.

"Patagonia Houdini is just like Epic. " Unless something has changed recently, I don't think that is the case. I think the Houdini is typical nylon with a DWR treatment.

Brett, Not sure how you would define "fabric," but Will Rietveld reports on his site about "soft" Tyvek 1443R: "Since it's breathable, some people argue that it's not waterproof, but I had no problem with water passing through it, even when camping on wet ground." (Referring to use as a ground cloth) http://southwestultralight.blogspot.com/search/label/MYOG There is a link in there to a kite site, Into the Wind, that sells it at very low cost. Weighs around 1.2 oz per sq yd. Made of "spun-bonded olefin fibers," and "feels like cloth." How strong? Don't know, but if Will uses it alone as a ground cloth, as his photo suggests, it must be quite a bit stronger than propore polypropylene used in DriDucks.

Thanks, Giro only goes up to XL at $180, Wild Things has the Wind Shirt WT 1.0 which I think is Epic, $109 and 10oz. Just wish it was a full zip. The Tyvek looks nice. Thanks for the ideas.

Years ago. VersaTech was touted as just that: a tightly woven fabric which has an inherent water/wind repellency. I have an old North Face bag made of it. I think Birlington industries makes it….

the british version of the breathable a highly water resistant, "windproof" cotton is called ventile. there's also an swiss/italian version called etaproof. having used ventile products, they breathe really well and are moderately waterproof. i'm a big fan of epic fabric and have pre buy-out by private equity co wild things wind pants/shirt that i swear by. with the epic gear i almost never carry hard shell pants/jacket unless the forecast really calls for pain and then, i will/should stay home.
