I am looking for a small pack to use during the day while hiking after having made camp. I have found this one by Locus gear to be the lightest and of the size I am looking for. Does anyone know of any other manufacturers of small packs. Worn over the shoulder or a backpack is fine. Definitely not looking for a waist pack. Something big enough to hold a water bottle, rain jacket and a few other small items but that doesn't weigh too much.

Nice, hoping to see some more preferably cottage made and with an external pocket
Thanks, I am hoping for packs that have at least one external pocket be it for a water bottle or what not. Keep em coming
Not cheap, but not crazy either. And Joe can customize it to your liking: http://www.zpacks.com/backpacks/xs_zero.shtml
Yikes $85 + 30 for pockets. That gets pricey quick.
This works for me – Cuben Fiber Stuff Sack Pack – $30 and 1.5 ounces. Nathan will work with you for pockets and such.
Sorry TT…missed your original post.
TT didn't mention you could add pockets and the like. That is good info.
Take a look at this. http://www.roamready.com/collections/bags/products/hydration-pack As a runner I've had good luck in the past using hydration packs as day packs for hiking. Instead of a bladder I just use the compartment for whatever I want. The one above appears to have a rather large main compartment and an outer mesh pocket for a weight penalty of 5.5 oz.
Thanks definitely another great option.
Yeah I saw the Rik Sak. I was looking for something more like their minimalist 24 ultralight with the pocket just smaller in capacity.
Yes Heather, I saw those but too heavy… for me anyway. I have an older Ricksack that is 3.0 oz… new one is 4.5 oz billy
Billy, It's Heath not Heather and yeah its too heavy for me as well. I want something like that but smaller and lighter.
Freelight from Japan makes a Sacoche (as they call it here) similar to Locus Gear, but cheaper and lighter (and/but a bit smaller). http://freelight.shop-pro.jp/?mode=cate&cbid=1266661&csid=0
Thanks. I had been on their site awhile back and couldn't remember the name. I lived in Japan from 2004-2009 and am quite fond of Japanese made gear. It is quite well built. I have been following 3 Japanese hiker/blogger/gear manufacturers on instagram and found a lot of cool gear made in Japan. I am currently waiting on a Khufu Sil shelter and mesh inner from Locus Gear. Can't wait for it to show up!
Yamatomichi makes some nice ones as well but they appear to be sold out. I haven't inquired when they will have more in stock. http://yamatomichi.com/?mode=cate&cbid=1215904&csid=0
Some more, just out of interest: and Wander: Silnylon http://moonlight-gear.com/?pid=48625162 Cuben http://moonlight-gear.com/?pid=75964622 Bit heavier, can use as sack, or hang to your pack, or use as waist pack. Yamatomichi, very nicely made, but expensive. Lots of colours, easy in use. http://yamatomichi.com/?mode=cate&cbid=1215904&csid=0 (scroll down for pics in scale and video). edit: crosspost with your reply. Yamatomichi is very nice for sure. They make batches of their products. If you're not in a hurry you follow them on Facebook where they announce production dates and you can make reservations or order custom colours.
I was just on Moonlight Gear's website. Too funny. Any other gear companies from Japan keep em coming! I also saw the hashtag on Instagram for #offthegridjapan which looked like an Expo of Japanese cottage companies. Looked like lots of solid cottage companies in Japan. Would love to support them.
I don't have more brands, but here are two local UL shops that carry different gear: Utility is a small UL shop in Osaka. They focus a lot on foreign UL gear, but they have Yamatomichi as well. Not sure how up to date their site is, but you could try and see if you can get the Yamatomichi Sacoche from them. http://www.utility-outdoor.com/2015/04/20/27838 Another local shop is Sky High Mountain Works. They also have UL gear foreign (as in Western) and Japanese. It is an even smaller shop mainly focussed on trail running and climbing. http://skyhighmountainworks.com/index.htm http://skyhighmw.blog112.fc2.com Second link is their blog which is the easiest to see what new gear comes in. Not sure but I think the owner speaks ok English. Another JP independent brand is Teton Bros. They are focussed on technical clothing, but thought you might find them interesting. http://en.teton-bros.com edit: that #offthegridjapan contains a lot (most?) of the independent makers I think. Nice.
I heard Od Box in Shibuya was a great place as well. I mostly frequented Montbell in Minato Mirai when I lived there.
OD Box Shibuya I don't know but I went to another location and it was great. There is one in Kobe too which is close to me, (I live between the sea and the mountain, and the cities Kobe and Osaka). I go there quite often but they don't have so much UL gear, more trail running. Another one I remember in Tokyo is Hikers Depot, one of the older (oldest?) UL shops of Japan. http://hikersdepot.jp/products/
Not to be sorry. I left out a few things. Nathan will make what you want at a decent price. Chris at Zimmerbuilt has a few small packs as well and will customize. Both good to work with. I've bought from both. It was a toss up when I bought my last pack, which I bought from Nathan.
