Anyone have a recommendation for a great value on a packable jacket for backpacking. So many out there. I know you get what you pay for, but sometimes there are few gems out there.

There’s usually a consensus about the Uniqlo ultra light down jackets as being “best bang for the buck”. Check them out HERE
Costco is right up there as well.
Montbell's Outlet section has discounts on already competitively-priced down & synthetic fill jackets: http://www.montbell.us/products/list.php?cat_id=20&fo_flg=1&gen_cd=1&sort=P Their Highland down jacket @ $76 is simply a steal.
We now have a large Uniqlo store in Melbourne. Had a look at their UL down jackets and vests, nice stuff for the money. Recently I purchased a somewhat similar vest from Aldi for $30 AUD . 190g; don't know how much down there is in there but much warmer than a jumper of similar weight. The down jackets were $79 from memory. With Aldi you need to wait for that once a year event. (they are a German supermarket chain )
#ERROR!
for those in canada … superstore carries the "joe fresh" brand … these are 90/10 down jackets …. theres 2 versions … a mens or womens down sweater for ~80 maple syrup dollahs … and a womens "puffer jacket" (the XL fits like a mens med) they are light/packable … and for women or small men the "puffer jacket" has quite a bit of loft and a hood i wouldnt pay 80$ personally, but after xmas theyll likely go for ~50 dollahs ;)
