Hey all, I recently saw these in my local gear shop, and remember reading someone mention just recently that they still buy Smartwool socks simply because Icebreaker and Ibex don’t, yet, make socks…

Well, the day has come…

Socks

BTW,these felt VERY nice in the store… I’ll probably get some with XMas money…

Were these pure merino, or a merino/nylon mix? I couldn't tell from the website.

Pure Merino if memory of the package serves… maybe a bit of lycra or spandex to help with the fit… so maybe 98-99% merino…

The store is having a holiday party this Wednesday night that I'm attending… I'll probably pick up a pair or two and report…

definitely weren't the merino / nylon that smartwool uses… IIRC

I have a couple pairs here still in the packaging.

Hiker Lite: 77% Wool, 19% Nylon, 4% Lycra (Says "Pure Merino wool against your skin, other fibres for structure and durability")
Bike/Run Lite Mini: 60% Wool, 36% Nylon, 4% Lycra (Says "Pure Merino wool against your skin, other fibres for structure and durability")

The pair I have been using for the last couple months are definately a lower volume fit than the Smartwool hiking socks- more like the Smartwool Adrenaline series or the Patagonia lighter weight socks.

Ooh! Nice catch / call… I probably just saw the "Pure Merino against your skin" part… of the box…

I'm definitely a believer in low volume socks… I actually don't like the extra padding that a lot of socks have (I think it's because my feet run hot)…

I want to get some of the lifestyle socks as well…

I believe the possum down sock sold here is the dress sock [I apologize if I'm wrong ahead of time}. There also is a possum down trekking sock that is 50% merino, 40% possum down, and 10% nylon. Maybe someone in watching the Southern Cross could review it.

Correction: What I ment by the lower volume was the fit of the sock on the foot. All of them (including the thicker pair I have) are suitable for skinny feet… which unfortunately is not me.
