I've got a couple problems that make both make me wear out trail sneakers twice as fast as anyone else, and make getting replacements twice as expensive (I use an outsole lift on one side that is professionally installed). Because of this I end up with shoes that have fine uppers and worn outsoles (bottoms). I've been searching around for something called "soling sheets" which are what they sound like – replacement tread you glue onto a shoe that is worn down. The problem seems to be that the only places I can find suitable sheets (the high traction stuff) are all wholesalers and you have to have a tax ID to get them. Does anyone know of e-tailers that are selling the sheets retail and not just to professional cobblers? Thanks! I found this listing on AliExpress. Not the best product description but it seems to be the same stuff. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Cloth-shoe-sole-thin-rubber-cow-muscle-plate-whole-sole-forefoot-mute-wear-resistant-baby-shoe/1208143586.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.2.JSMmBm&ws_ab_test=201407_5,201444_5,201409_5
There used to be a place called cobblersupplies.com. I can't seem to pull up their site. Maybe they are no more. I have bought stuff from them in the past with no problem. I did just check Amazon and ebay, and they both have stuff. Look up soling sheets.
These seem to be well thought of :- http://fiveten.com/products/accessories-detail/4316-stealthr-c4-dot-kit-reg#tab1 Dave
Thanks all. Still searching for high-grip stuff that isn't a fortune. I'll probably just have to keep checking in with aliexpress. Amazon may have *some* sheets but mostly they are overpriced and under-treaded for what I'm looking to do.
Have you talked to whoever does the initial modification to your shoes? They may be willing to sell you some. Or talk to some other cobbler. I've bought stuff from them from time to time, they've mostly been pretty friendly.
I bought lots of stuff from cobblersupplies.com and when I got the invoice they were really named Nordshoe. Nordshoe still has their ebay store and they've put the cobbler supplies logo on it. http://stores.ebay.com/Nordshoe
