I'm mailing from Scotland, wondering if anyone can please advise me on: A. a lightweight, breathable and very effective rain jacket that's not too fragile. B. a light windshirt. Conditions here can be pretty wet and wild, so an UL rain shell that is only shower-proof won't cut it. So I'm prepared to make a small compromise on the weight front, in favour of waterproofness and some durability – meaning I'd prefer it to not delaminate too quickly. Re. the windshirt – never used one before so I don't really know what I'm looking at. Something that'll go well over an R1 hoodie and that breathes well, maybe a bit shower resistant too. Thanks!

Do you need a full zip or are you okay with smock/anorak styles? Montane and Rab both make very light eVent jackets. If you want durability, stay away from the Pertex Shiled+ variety. Jennifer Mitol seems very impressed with her Rab Flashpoint. 3-layer construction and only 6 oz in a men's large. Re:Windshirts – You have a lot to choose from. I guess the Windshirt doesn't need to be durable? Montane makes some of the best. Rab has a few light ones like the Cirrus, and some heavier more durable ones. The Patagonia Houdini is very weather resistant, but not as breathable as other options. If you want absolute light weight, there's the Tachyon series from Mont•Bell. Just a few thoughts and suggestions to get you started. Good luck
Thanks Sam, you've given me some good pointers there. With both the rain jacket and windshirt I prefer full zip for extra venting – also as my Patagonia R1 hoodie is quarter-zip, another one on top may get a bit stuffy. Great that you've picked on gear that's easily available here in the UK, thanks again.
