One other fine point to DG’s follow-up comment re leaking bottles…. (and an update to my prior comment)

I had leaking from the 3ml bottles even with very minimal elevation change, about 1000 feet.

I noticed that this had occurred with 3ml bottles that I had been using for some time, and which were also bottles I had done the pre-mixing by removing the dropper tip and adding the drops of A and B directly into the 3ml bottle.

I thought it possible that frequently removing and replacing the dropper tip might have compromised the seal somewhat. So I started doing the pre-mix (about 30 drops each of A and B) in the little white cup and then squeezing the 3ml bottle and using vacuum action to suck the pre-mix into the bottle through the dropper tip, so it did not have to be removed.

I’ve had much less leakage after adopting this method.

I once developed a very personal relationship with Montezuma on day 2 of a 5 day trip with no opportunity to bail out.  I very much wish to avoid a repeat.  Since then, regardless of the trip or my filter setup du jour, I pack 10 Katadyn Micorpur tablets as backup.  Every so often I throw them away and buy a new supply.  I look at it as very cheap and very light insurance.

An alternative, not necessarily lighter, but very fast:

Consider using an AquaMira Frontier Pro, which filters down to 3 microns to remove giardia and cryptosporidium.  It does NOT eliminate small bacteria (as small as 0.5 microns), but bacteria can be neutralized very quickly with ClO2.

Thus I understand one can have safe water in a few seconds after adding ClO2 and filtering through a Frontier Pro.
