I have heard and seen lots of complaints about the Fusion series' colorway. A tight budget made the Fusion 65 at $115 around Christmas time too good to pass up, so for a while I was the man with a creamsicle on his back. I love this pack though, and I'm a little mystified as to why it hasn't done better despite the colors. Several threads bounced around asking if the material would take a dye like the ULA packs, but no conclusive evidence one way or the other that I could find. If you are looking at the SMD pack at $110 to clear out the old stock now, here is what it looks like with 2 hours, 2 bottles of RIT black and half a RIT grey. Plus a bucket and lots of hot water.
Before (last weekend):
Overall, I am very pleased with the results. Just posted for those of you who might be looking at that $110 price and wishing it would take dye.

Nice. So did you just dump 2.5 bottles of dye hot water, add the pack, and let soak? I picked up the Fusion on clearance. I expected the color to be worse. I don't think it's all that bad. But yours looks better.
Looks great! Ryan
First off, I actually liked the white and orange. It looks good out of context I think.. but definitely not stealthy in the woods. I dumped the first several gallons of hot (near boiling water) into the tub, followed by the pack with the back panel removed. I sank and stirred vigorously for a couple minutes — be sure to roll the air out first so you don't get a black inky geyser bubble to the eye — then add another half gallon or so of really hot water until I hit the capacity of the tub, followed by stirring every 10-15 minutes on a timer. I also tossed two kettle bells in freezer bags and sank them on different spots on the pack to weight it down. Ryan– thank you!
Just curious, how did you know to mix 1/2 bottle of grey in with the black? I am getting my pack delivered today, but am not sure I have the courage to try dyeing it, but am considering it after seeing your pics. Wonder what would happen if you used a medium blue dye? Also trying to figure out how black and white turned into navy blue on your pack!
