Will be hiking the loop from Needleton to Elk Creek this year middle of September. Any idea what the bug situation will be like that time of year? Would prefer to ditch the tent and instead bring tarp/bivy combo and cowboy camp whenever possible but also don't want to fight skeeters all night. Appreciate the input!

Mid-September shouldn't be bad. Shouldn't. But it has been another unusually wet year.

We did the loop to Fourmile Lake in the Weminuche last week. Spent one night about 9,000 ft, another about 11,000 ft (under a tarp). Bugs of any kind were a non-issue. Conditions were wet, but definitely no problems with mosquitoes, and I'm pretty sensitive to that, especially for sleeping.
