I'm making a pack that's a cross between the Virga 26, the Arc Blast, and an Ohm.

The pack will have the same front, side, and top layout as the Virga 26. Only difference being that the side pockets will be made of solid fabric.

It will have a mesh trampoline back panel like Zpacks.

The suspension and hip belt will be most similar to an Ohm. I have a hoop stay and two different belts to use. One is a Gossamer Gear G4 belt. The other is a ULA removable belt.

My question is whether or not I should add some channeling on the hip belt for the stay to rest in? Or should I have the stay rest in the bottom of the pack and allow the belt to freely wrap around my hips?

Always a good idea to be slightly paranoid about reinforcing the ends of whatever holds the stays. The stays can wear through fabric when the pack is bouncing along on your back. Actually, equally smart is smoothing and padding the ends of the stays. Even just a bit of something like Plasti-Dip can work wonders. Cheers

Thanks Roger! I'll dip the stays in Plasti-Dip. I'm thinking now I'll add a tri-glide attachment point where the stays rest in addition to the stay housing. That way I can use webbing and the tri-glide to pull the hipbelt directly to the stay, a la ULA. Also, when not using the beefier hipbelt, I can attach just a piece of webbing to the tri-glide for more stability.
