This is a video series I am creating, basically a knowledge dump of everything I know about backpacking in these mountains. I don't claim to know everything, far from it! But in this series I will try to communicate as much as I can. There will be 11 parts to the series. 8 are filmed, three more to shoot and I should have the second part uploaded tonight. And it definitely has a bend towards backpacking *light.*

It is aimed at people who are relatively new to backpacking and these mountains and covers everything from what to eat and what to bring to how to reserve a permit. My goal is to be helpful. I hope I will succeed in any small part.

Thanks!

I look forward to it. I am currently driving home from an Eastern Sierra trip as I type this (actually, I'm stopped to eat at the moment). I love the Eastern Sierra and look forward to hearing other perspectives and experiences.

As someone who teaches, I would agree that what you have created is a "brain dump." But that's not usually how people learn or assimilate information. You are correct, that there is a TON of information here. But you don't really help people distinguish between the information that is critical to their success/enjoyment of the Sierra, and what is simply interesting/diverting but not important to their next adventure. You might improve the overall impact if you started each video/presentation with 3-5 simple concepts you hope people will remember. Then hammer each one carefully, always making sure to stay on topic, and then provide a summary at the end of each video, pointing out how what you presented emphasized the 3-5 key points. Right now, it's hard for me to watch more than a few minutes without wondering where you are going next, and why….

I agree with Paul. As a retired high school teacher who has had his share of "Teach me! I dare you!" students I highly recommend the advice given by the old black Southern Baptist preacher to a new preacher who asked him how he became so successful. "Son, it's like this: First I tells 'em what I'm gonna tell 'em. Then I tells 'em. Then I tells 'em what I done told 'em." i.e. as Paul was saying – 1. list main points 2. present main points 3. summarize main points It works every time. Just don't have more than 4 or 5 main points. Psychologists know that's about the human limit for absorption of new material. You've got good material. Now rearrange/re-edit it for maximum effectiveness and minimum turn-off.
