Jacks R Better Katahdin For Winter Bag?

I noticed that the Katahdin has 21.5 oz. of down yet the monte bell 0 has 28 oz. I am guessing that the monte bell will be warmer.

if you were going to use the katahdin at 61" wide as a quilt, it would be incredibly inefficient. with the velcro pad below you would make the circumference 81". If you bought a regular sized REI bag, it doesn't surprise me at all that it was tight fitting. It advertises a slim cut as a feature with only 57" girth. Im tall and skinny and find i need more than that in a bag.

Go with the old rag mt. or rockt mt. sniveller from JRB. I heard they are supposed to be super roomy. 68" girth with the pad would be an extra 11" over the REI bag and warmer.

First, I have the four season set from JRB and I love it, but I'm using it in a hammock. For temps that cold if you're not insistent on a quilt, I can't recommend the folks at Feathered Friends enough for sleeping bags. They some of the absolute highest quality, low weight bags anywhere – and they make bags in three different girths. That way you can get the bag that FITS you the best. Before I changed to a hammock I used one of their bags, and it is a dream. Pick the length, width, and even the interior and exterior materials. When it comes to sleeping bags you will never regret choosing one from them.

I would use this quilt as a bag with the velcro zipper, so it would be about 30 1/2" wide along the entire bag.[61" quilt folded in half] I will check out feathered friends. Thanks for the info. Any others with experience with the the Katahdin?
