Hi. We're looking for a very lightweight self-supporting mesh tent – basically a self-supporting mosquito net with floor.

Happy to buy a tent with a mesh inner and a fly and we'll just leave the fly at home.

The Hilleberg range seems good but a bit on the heavy side.

This is for use in very hot, still conditions in the Kimberley of NW Australia. Last time we used a mosquito net stretched over some Hubba Hubba poles but we'd like a fully enclosed option for the next trip

Any ideas?

thanks, Peter

Seems like any of the various inner net products made by the usual suspects (MLD, Locus Gear, Bearpaw, HMG) would work. The Mountain Laurel Designs cuben version is probably the lightest but may require extra care. All require at least one trekking pole and some require two. Alternatively, carbon fiber or aluminum poles may be used.

Hopefully my reply doesn't come off as overly North American centric.

I'd also pay attention to the size of netting, the finer it is, the less air flow you're going to get. It is surprising how well a fine net can stop the breeze.

So if its just mosquitoes that you'd like to stop something like 1.2mm should be enough, which is at least twice the size of noseeums.
