I am thinking of throwing together a last minute CDT section hike with a loop of some sort somewhere in the Gila Wilderness or nearby. I'd like to hit some decent elevation and want to have plenty of water available (perhaps along the Gila River)? I live in Texas, and I picked the Gila because it seems like the nearest area within driving distance with temps cool enough to backpack this time of year. (It's still about 12 hrs from Houston, but it takes forever to get anywhere from here!).
Thoughts? Hiking the CDT would be a plus, but not absolutely necessary. Was thinking of starting near Silver City and heading north.
