What do people suggest to use over trail runners to keep them dry and warm during the winter months but that still would be UL? Thanks.

There stuff seems to really not have a sole on it for hiking but more for crampons or the such. Does anyone have experience with the Neos line? Or are there other alternatives for keeping you feet warm and dry in trail runners?

Doh! I just remembered, there was a series of articles on "winter footwear systems" from BPL not too long ago. Check the archives, they offered a number of layering approaches with trailrunners.
That is probably more of what you are looking for.

edit: I think you'll have to spring for a membership to read it. :)

NEOS are likely the least expensive overshoes I've seen but they're not breathable and they are knee high. Several people on backpacking forums like them.

I found a pair of Neos at the Goodwill a few months ago. I'm looking forward to trying them out with my trail runners and snowshoes.

I tried NEOS a few years ago and while they might be good for snowshoeing or trail walking, they don't accomodate crampons. Unfortunately I failed to check to see if crampons would fit until I needed them on my hike out and took a nasty fall hiking back to the trailhead in the Whites. In retrospect I should have put the crampons on my trailrunners to get out….live and learn.

Don't forget to check out "Icebug" brand shoes, sold at REI among other places: they have diamonds on the soles of their shoes. Actually, they are carbide steel spikes, but they stick to icy trails like diamonds.

Actually, I was more looking for something to just chomp through the snow with. I don't intend to use crampons or snowshoes. My trail runners are Gore-Tex XCR so maybe putting a liner sock under a wool one and a bread bag over that to inside my pants will do the trick to keep them dry and warm. I don't know if I want the 2# weight penalty for a Neos in my size. The fortybelow stuff just did look that durable. But thanks.
