I certainly expected to mess up a few times. I'm looking on the bright side though, as now I have a pair of wind pants or the liner for another pair of puffy pants. Ha

I'm already addicted to it. A Minima Vest kit will be here on Monday. I shouldn't have spent the money, but I NEEDED it. Lol. I ordered it with 5oz Apex for a super warm vest to combine with my pants and other layers for my winter sleep system.

Bonus!: I used boot cut jeans for the pattern so my puffy pants are boot cut. Ha

They look nice and toasty warm. Why did you put the zipper off-center? And how did you do it? Just put a slit in the fabric? How did you prevent the slit from fraying?

You don't need to put in zipper. Just make it big enough at waist to get on and off, and then have elastic and/or a nylon drawstring.

The zipper is placed off center purely out of laziness. I didn't want to have to deal with cutting into the seam to put it in the middle. Too much trouble, and It was my first time sewing, so I didn't want to screw up (even more). I attached the zipper by first, pinning the zip on both sides of the tape, while it was fully zipped up, then sewed two lines of stitching down both sides plus a few extra reinforcements at the top of the sides and bottom. I then unzipped it and cut the slit, trimming away excess as close as possible. The double stitch should keep it from fraying. I double stitched everything. The zip hasn't gotten caught once and I've tried it a lot.

I wouldn't have needed the zip but I used jeans as the pattern, and jeans are fitted and need a zip. LOL. So on my next pair of pants, some super basic, super light rain pants with Pertex Shield, I will enlarge the waist so I can pull them over my hips.

Here's my plans for my winter sleep system. Hopefully allowing me to reach single digits and maintain proper moisture management. The latter being especially important down here in the SE USA. Most of the time temps will be in the 20s, so I feel I'll have a good list of options to suit the expected temps.

-Cap 4 top and bottom
-these pants (3.7oz Apex)
-insulated socks or booties (5oz Apex, need to make)
-NanoPuff
-vest with 5oz Apex (in the process of making)
(Or a thicker warmer parka to replace those two)
-EE Rev 20
-EE Prodigy 50 over quilt
-NeoAir Short
-ZLite SOL on top

Hopefully this set up will keep me warm. It'll be quite lightweight for what it is if I take all of it expecting lows of 0f. This is more appropriate for the Gear forum. Oh well. ;)
