My name is Vincent and I'm with an small apparel upstart called Yesler, based in the PNW.

I'm trying to take a stab at designing a great, versatile hoodie (versatile enough for an outdoor adventure, or just everyday non-active usage). We're smack in the middle of design, and I'd love hear some opinions from outerwear aficionados:

– When it comes to utility of pockets: what type of pockets and locations are they most useful given your specific activity & setup?

– I realize this question is loaded with "it depends", but under drizzly backpacking conditions, how much water-resistance do you generally consider enough as you trade-off breathability? (i.e, is a strong DWR good enough, or do you typically look for a minimum water column rating?)

– What technical fabrics (including laminates) do you swear by? Or alternatively, is there a style from a particular brand that has served you well?

Any comments, advice, or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Make a knock off of this and sell it for 1/3 of the price. Best hoody ever with good DWR to boot.

Thanks Drew– I think Patagonia did a great job with the Nano Air. (and a third of the price would hit the sweet spot!)
