I'm in the car to Mt Rainier now. After the loop, if we are still in the mood for more backpacking, do you have any suggestions for a one or two-nighter nearby?

How about the goat rocks area? Is that national forest?

We will exit the wonderland trail at white river. We have no bear canister with us, but can hang.

Suggestions? Let me know where to go, what trailhead to stray from and which direction to head! Thanks!

Goat Rocks has some spectacular offerings. I've done many two-nighters there; it's among Washington's jewels. Couple of examples, both of which started at the Snowgrass trailhead and took in Cispus Basin, the big view on the PCT, Old Snowy mtn, Goat Lake, and Hawkeye Point. Hard to go wrong in the Rocks:

Edit: You asked for a bit more detail. I suggest starting at the Snowgrass TH and hiking in to camp at Alpine camp or maybe in/near Cispus Basin. Then dayhike over to view Cispus Basin; if you've got daylight left, you could hike up to one of the ridges above or even bag Ives Peak. Next day hike north on the PCT to the big view, the "knife edge," and Old Snowy. That evening maybe move camp to one of the nice spots on the Lily Basin trail toward Goat Lake. Or at Goat Lake, but it tends to be windy and crowded. Next morning bag Hawkeye Point above the lake then hike out Goat Ridge. That puts you at the Berry Patch trailhead, which is mayby 1/2 to 3/4 mile from Snowgrass TH. There's a spur trail between them. Have fun!

Hike North on the PCT into the Alpine Lakes Area. one of the coolest areas on the PCT or frankly anywhere.

2 great suggestions so far

Another one is a hike to ingalls lake in Esmeralda basin. Esmeralda basin is south of my Stuart. The views of my Stuart are spectacular there. About 5 miles up to ingalls pass the a couple of miles to the lake.

If you are looking for directions to it just search for directions to drive to Esmeralda basin. Google is your best friend for that.

You will not regret the trip.

Btw where are you driving from/to?

Thanks all for the suggestions! We are currently back in Seattle at a Korean spa getting our money's worth after 11 days without a shower. We'll probably hard back out to the mountains shortly, and will have two nights out before coming back to town for an early Sunday departure from seatac.

Thanks again!
