Zpacks style zipper-less doors

I recently posted on a shelter I made of silnylon using this style of door. Based on the first outing, I'm very pleased with how the doors worked.

Edit: I did add a line-loc for the guyline at each peak, since silnylon requires adjustment to keep the pitch taut when temp drops or rain occurs. And I attached the lineloc to a fabric triangle that encloses the trekking pole handle inside the peak, rather than to the fabric of the peak itself, as I thought that would be more durable and less likely to rip out.

I have done it – as soon as I saw the Zpacks Solplex design, I realized the potential.
Bought a used Hex Solo tarp, modified it as shown here:

and still use it in shoulder seasons – and when I'm not hammocking.

Zpack's solution of the doors' guyouts (involving carabiners) they deployed later on to transfer their former "beaks" into "doors" still baffles me, mine is much simpler and no less effective. Lighter too.

I'm cleaning up my mom's old sewing machine and once I feel comfortable with it I'm planning to make a frameless pack… something like a G4, as well as a mid for solo hiking. I've got an Oware mid and like his construction techniques and will be using dimensions similar to the old chouinard pyramid I have… roughly 7×9 footprint and about 5'5" height. The big decisions are type of door closure and whether to have the door on the short side like the chouinard or long side like a duomid. I will definitely be asking more questions as I get into it and will be sure to share my results.
