Setting up above a beautiful little pond in the ADK's a couple weeks ago, and as I was cleaning a spot of pitch covered cones for my shelter I unknowingly set my pack down on a big nasty clump of it. Pine pitch that is. Damn, pitch comes in only second to mosquitos in things that annoy me on the trail. I scraped off what I could and as I'm imagining it all over me by the end of my short trip I remember I have a some alcohol pads in my FAK. Cleaned up the mess with a couple pads – me happy camper once again.
Same pads can be used for air mattress patch prep and soothing bites from my #1 trail annoyance above. I think it takes about 6 to measure 2 grams on my scale.
