Hey everyone. I was looking for a compact low cost alternative to a sleeping bag. Seeing as I backpack mostly during the summer in the sierras I don't need anything substantial, just something that takes up as little space as humanly possible! Any help would be appreciated

Depends on overnight expected lows.
Sorry John! I forgot to mention the coldest I'd be experiencing is in the 40-50 degree range
Open to a quilt? I have an Enlightened Equipment Prodigy 50 in a regular length and slim width that weighs 11.5 oz (quoted on site as ~13.5oz or something) and packs down super small if you want it too. Cost me ~$160 shipped and a 4 week wait. Even a 40 degree long/wide would weigh around +- a pound I'm sure.
For the price and weight and performance, they rock. So unless you want something right away, or a bag, or down, or a combination of those, then I'd go with an EE Prodigy.
My $0.02
Might look into a snugpak jungle bag. It isn't super light, but it is very cheap, packable, and it has a built in face mesh if you want to forego a bivy.
I think of Lafuma sleeping bags for low cost and low weight. Some of the shell fabrics can be quite porous, which is great for warm weather, but no so good if there is a cold wind and sleeping under a tarp. Best in a tent or bivy.
Save your pennies and get something better— or wait for the $$$$deal$$$$.
Type in 20d down sleeping bag in Amazon and you'll find a bunch of light weight sub $90 bags.
Maybe you'll get lucky with your WTB, but that Snugpak Jungle Bag seems to fit the bill. Good deal it seems on overstock.com… http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Snugpak-Jungle-Bag-Olive-RH/8657403/product.html
I had just thought about the LaFuma bags, and now see Dale posted about them. I think the x600 (?) is the one you'd want to check out. I Think it's a 45f bag that weighs around a pound. Too lazy to google it.
Forgive my ignorance, I hike in south Louisiana. Low last night was like 74F.
Maybe you could sleep in a down coat and use leggings or puffy pants?
Cheap(ish) but certainly not for everyone.
Make a fire.
Fill garbage bags with leaves/twigs. Lay under said garbage bags.
Army surplus blankets.
Dumpster dive in affluent neighborhoods. They throw out 600TC sheets and 700FP duvets.
Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm bidding on a small rei sleeping bag right now on eBay. But if that doesn't pan out I'm looking into just rolling a blanket up with my sleeping pad!
