Hi everyone,

Have had great success and love the backcountry styled packaged main meals just add boiling water and let it sit. I am however looking at other opitions as well. By the time I have breakfast lunch and dinner on a 6 night hike I literally am paying more for packaged food than the park entry, trail costs, car travel to the park and back etc etc (I think you get the picture).

What are some other DRY food options you take for main meals?

Thank you.

Sarah is a regular contributor here, and has been an excellent resource for those that wish to replace the mass produced "just add hot water" meals.

Her recipes are just about as simple, by doing the Freezer Bag Cooking method, and it's very rare that I cannot create a flavorful meal plan that has enough variety to last me through a multi-day hike.

Top Ramen, chunks of pepperoni, and some olive oil makes for a 500-700 kcal meal for a couple/few bucks.

If you bring a cozy, there are a bunch of options.

Knorr sides. Zatans (sp?) dirty rice. Fettuccini Alfredo. Etc.

This can be as easy or as complicated as you like. +1 on Trail Cooking aka Sarah.
