Thanks for your insight. I agree a extra vestibule would help. But I'm not sure if you can tell from the new pics but the net tent now sits all the way back, albeit without touching the tarp. So there about 2 feet of distance right now that the rain needs to travel to get me wet.

I know that it would be a very good addition though. It would offer a lower beak and extend the current vestibule space.I am just hesitant to start sewing or bonding a cuben vestibule to the flat tarp right now.

But i do have some cuben .51 right now. I think if I do do anything it will be simply adding some clips or stick on tie outs so the extra cuben is removable. Then I can multiuser the sheet of cuben for a vbl with my light summer quilt when needed on cold dry nights.

Make a rain skirt with it and mod the skirt to be the beak! Or make a beak and mod it to be a rain skirt. ;)

The stick on tie outs from zPacks would be perfect for the application of adding a beak. You could fix up something super easy with the Cuben. All you really need to make a skirt is some double sided tape and guy line with a cord lock. Then mod it up for beak use.

I also think adding a layer of cuben on the net tent would work well for reflecting rain. But i would lose the idea of more vestibule space. And lose any extra aerodynamic enhancments. But it would be easier. Sort of like the mld cricket net tents.

i actually own a Cuben cricket tarp. And I've been thinking about net tents lately. I want one with extra high walls all around and a half solid door side. The only way I could get that would be through BPWD I think. So I was thinking about finding the cheapest net tent that fits the dimensions, like a used serenity, and modding it by just adding Cuben or silnylon over the mesh. I also thought about just taping a piece of polycro cut to shape over the front of the net tent without worrying about the rest of the sides. And then also making a polycro or Cuben door for the tarp for when I don't need the net tent.

So you could definitely do something like that.

I think if you were to add something to a net tent .3 oz cuben would be best. It would be way more durable than polycro and would add hardly any weight. I think sewing it would be sturdy or make it removable with snaps. Sewing being the better and lighter option. Cut it out to contour th zipper.

I might do it! I'd make it go half way or 3/4 way up. Probably just lay it over the mesh. Cutting the mesh out would save negligible grams and you'd lose durability.

I was thinking polycro as a temporary solution to see if I liked it. I would probably use .51 or the .34 Cuben like you suggested for a finished product.

I think just leaving the mesh would be the best. You could potentially screw with the geometry of the structure removing it. But, I also wonder if the mesh would abrade the Cuben while packing it away? Cuben Hates abrasion.

A 3/4 solid door on your serenity would do wonders for extra weather protection. Negligible weight increase for a lot more protection. But, like you mentioned previously, you wouldn't get the vestibule space of adding a dual use beak. Maybe a dual use beak plus an extra 4" on the bath tub floor at the open side of the tarp? That would be the best of both worlds to add weather protection without adding too much weight. I have no problem adding a couple ounces for increased function now days, but It seems like weight is more of an importance to you. So the beak plus tub extension is what I would do if I was you.

Good suggestions. I already ordered some white .51 oz cuben but it's only half a yard.

The beak we discussed is still a good option. But having a waterproof layer of cuben over the storm side is more fool proof I think. Because when the wind blown rain comes in that far the cuben will stop it for sure. With a beak it's not guaranteed. I think I'll do like you said and lay it over first and see how I like it and see how high it should go up etc. In don't think cuben and mesh abrasion will be a problem. Zpacks has been doing it for a while now.

I didn't even think about ZPacks when thinking about the mesh and cuben. Post what you ended up doing with pictures. Id like to see how you did it and hear how it works out for you.
