I'm new (to this board) and my very first post is recommending a business. I know this may look fishy but I assure you I have no connections to Fenix-Store other than being a satisfied customer. Since I own over 100 flashlights and headlamps I may qualify as a certified geek.

I also bought from the fenix store. I have the AA version, the L1D CE, and I have to say that I am amazed by the amount of light. As much or more than a 4D mag light. But it is probably "too heavy" to qualify for ultra light backpacking (I will take it canoe camping though).

I am thinking of getting the EO "dart" though for my keychain and to carry in the pack for emergency use. Although it gives up a lot in performance, the runtime is great, and in the end in an emergency, run time may be the most important consideration (in place of a headlight, or as a backup to a headlamp).

I'm thinking of the two battery AA light, I know, it's not ultralight, but I'm not ashamed to say it. (Alright, a little ashamed).

I would like to get the 2xAA body for mine as well, since I charge 2 batteries at a time, and it would be easier just to put both in at once. My guess is that the 2xAA will be easier to grip and use the tail clicky as well. There are several fenix choices at 2xAA, so I am not sure which you are looking at, and I can't say I know much about any. But some thoughts from what I do know:

1) my understanding is that the rebels come with a warning to only use the turbo for a limited period of time, like 10 minutes, to avoid heat build up. The crees don't have that, and I run mine on turbo all the time. So the small boost in performance comes at a price.

2) the one downside I have seen with these fully regulated lights for backcountry use is that there is little or no sign that the battery is dying, and then the light just shuts off. Obviously it would be good to go out with a full charge, and maybe this wouldn't be so pronounced with alkalines, but suddenly running out of light in the woods would be bummer. That was my attraction to the EO: it has hours of "moon mode" before it dies. But my light has hours and hours of run time, particularly at low or med, and the 2xAA cree has 55 hours at low, so that should be enough. I just find it seductive to run turbo all the time.

The Cree is at least twice the everything than any other non-cree light.
If you're looking for the best of the best, stick with the Cree.

I also bought my L0D from the fenix-store. Fast service and they sent me an accessory package when I emailed that mine was missing. (clip, o-ring, etc.)

Warning, avoid dealextreme.com. It seems to have good products at low prices but everything I got was either inoperative or defective in some way. 2nd order was just 'lost' somehow.

I may be confused about what you are referring to, but now there is a choice between a "cree" and a "rebel" in terms of top of the line LED performance. The rebel has a slightly higher output.
