Thanks for the update. I'll be out there with my GF in two weeks for 3 nights. The snow pack doesn't look any worse than what I saw at RMNP last summer above 10k feet.

I assume bear canisters are required? Is there anywhere near there to rent one? We're coming up from the Springs then heading off to Boulder after so I'm trying to figure out the best route/trailhead to access it.

Bear canisters are not required. Hanging a bear bag is perfectly acceptable. If you're not comfortable with that then probably your best bet is to rent a canister at REI before you leave the Springs. If you're coming in from the south on Hwy 24 / CO 77 it'd be a detour to Fairplay or Bailey, and I don't think either has rental facilities.

Dang! I should have gone. I had a lot of chores to do and the forecast was calling for 60% chance of rain on Saturday. Oh well, no one to blame but myself. Looks like it was pretty nice! Probably better than when I went out 2 weeks ago.

Hey, did you hear that the Jefferson Store no longer has burgers??? Cold food only now. I had never had one and heard how great they were so I stopped in after. The cook is now selling real estate and it sounds like they aren't going to replace her. Bummer.

"Hey, did you hear that the Jefferson Store no longer has burgers??? Cold food only now."

Bummer.

One of my favorite LCW memories waspost-trip at the market. I remember getting a burger, fries and a cold coke. Sat on the tailgate of my old pickup and looked out towards the snow covered Mosquito Range.

Life was good.

I know there is the BBQ places across the street, but I tended to like that little old grill.

Oh well..perhaps they'll find someone else. Seems like a fair amount of people stopped in for a nosh. Then again, may be expensive to run what amounts to a small restaurant, too.

…not for me. I just got back from doing the Wigwam trail with the kids Fathers day and the two following days (week later than your trek). Not a rain drop or mud puddle in site. There was, however, a bunch of water in the streams and brooks and marshes. Awesome weather. 85 during day and 50/ 55 at night. I heard from the local townsfolk they had rain everyday up till Saturday the 20th.
