There's a young lady who is about to become the first to thru-hike a new trail. The trail is the Condor Trail, which doesn't actually completely exist. Not that this was a deterrent from this determined woman. You should have seen her legs when she zeroed with us! Scratches all the way up and down and huge purple bruises. She's hauling ass now and nearing the Big Sur section.

This is not the right time of year to hike this trail. It's better done as a fall, winter or early spring hike. She got lucky with an unseasonably cool May.

She have anything to say about the poison oak?

She said she didn't really get into much poison oak. Raspberries and wild roses were another story though. That's mainly what scratched up her legs. She hasn't gotten into the Big Sur stuff yet. I haven't been there myself but I hear the poison oak is legendary there.

Looks like she completed the trail! It will be interesting to hear her report. It's an unfinished route, but she completed it. It's not as long as the PCT but it's a lot harder. There's nobody out there. Just you and the bears and the poison oak, wild roses, raspberries, stinging nettles and all that chaparral.

Congrats to Britney on her accomplishment! ~400+ miles in Los Padres is no walk in the park (… or the JMT).

Impressive work.

I loved watching her spot feed that would get posted every now and again. You could tell when she hit the hard stuff because her daily checkins all bunched together.

She doesn't have a blog. She posts on facebook, but I don't have facebook. She didn't keep a travelogue or anything. She just posts silly stuff like most facebook posts seem to be. At least that is all I've been shown. I am a facebook dumbass (don't really understand it) but maybe this is her. https://www.facebook.com/brittany.nielsen.33

She finally started posting her experience on a blog.  This is the page where they start:  https://teeheekittytits.wordpress.com/2015/09/

I came across it in a web search as I was researching possibly trying my hand at this trail this spring.  However, she is only doing a few entries a month and only has 12 out of 39? posted so far since September.  I wish she’d used the dates she hiked for the entries instead of the date she posted to the website. Not knowing the actual date of the experience removes some of the context for those trying to get trail beta out of it.

That said, there is a lot that one can learn from her journal.  Learn what not to do that is. ;-)  A lot of self inflicted problems such as throwing an inflatable pad at a thorny bush.  But other then cussing like a sailor, she shows great determination to plow through and overcome.

The one part that I least understand is that she boiled water for drinking for much of the southern part after forgetting to bring Iodine.  Talk about having to carry a lot of fuel.  Instead of requesting more fuel be delivered like she did, I’d have asked for some Aqua Mira be sent at the next food drop.  It use to be you couldn’t find Aqua Mira in a store in California.  But recently, I’ve been seeing it at REI, so I wonder when that changed.

Glancing at the first entry, seems a pair of small pruning shears may need to the packing list. I only half jest – gotten snagged on lightly used areas in the Big Sur area myself.

Actually, I was considering taking my 15″ Fiskars powergear pruner/loopers.
