I got a Petzl Tikka XP and I really like it. I bought the colored diffuser filters, so I could use the red one for night walking, night reading, etc. But it comes with green and blue filters, also.

What would you use these green and blue filters for? Petzl website gives no hint.

I believe one or the other (I think blue) is good for spotting blood in the dark. Good for deer hunters, but not really a feature you want to have to use while backpacking. I can't think of a really good use for green but I'm sure a quick Google or Wikipedia search would turn up something useful.

Green is good for pilots, as red washes out the magenta on charts, and green is almost as good at preserving night vision.

There are also night vision Yellow-Green LEDs that work with night vision goggles and also work well on charts.

Surefire is one of several manufacturers that sell lights with LEDs these colors.

Green is good for map reading at night. It's also the color light emitted by night vision devices which are based on magnifying existing light (starlight, moonlight).

An excellent multi-colored lens headlamp with power regulation is the EOS Tactical.
