hello,
I have a trip planned for July 2- July 5 in the Ansel Adams Wilderness area. Seeing if there is any interest from folks wanting to take part in the mini adventure with me. I had it posted on a couple of metopes, but it seems that many of the trips I belong to are more walk 3 miles and base camp backpacking than getting out and walking, I am out of the Sacramento, CA area.
the itinerary and plan goes something like this:
I am looking for 5 others that want to go play in the woods for 4 days, July 2-July 5.
I have plotted out 2 possible options for this trip, one that would go into Yosemite overnight and one that skirts Yosemite. There may be a better option than the ones I have presented and am open to discussing them with participants.
OPTION 1 (mileage approximate) -more of Yosemite, including Clark Range and in the vicinity of several beautiful peaks.
JULY 2, DAY 1 –Granite Creek trailhead to McClure Lake
11 miles
JULY 3, DAY 2–McClure Lake to Upper Ottaway Lake
13.7 miles
JULY 4, DAY 3–Upper Ottawa Lake to Rutherford Lake (could be changed to Breeze Lake, which would knock a couple of miles off)
15.1 miles
July 5, Day 4–Rutherford (Breeze) Lake to trailhead
10.1 miles
TOTAL MILEAGE
49.8 MILES
OPTION 2 (mileage approximate)
STAYING WITHIN ANSEL ADAMS, POSSIBLY DAY HIKING ONLY INTO YOSEMITE
JULY 2, DAY 1 –Granite Creek trailhead to McClure Lake
11 miles
JULY 3, DAY 2–McClure Lake to Porphy Lake
6.2 miles
July 4, DAY 3–Porpy Lake to Rutherford Lake
5.9 miles
July 5, Day 4–Rutherford (Breeze) Lake to trailhead
10.1 miles
TOTAL MILEAGE
33.2 miles
ELEVATION CHANGE–I not sure of exact amount but this trip is between 7000 feet at the trailhead and the high point of 10,000 something at Isberg Pass, but from all indications, most of the climbing is less intense than some portions of the sierra, but still count on overall several thousand feet of elevation change.
SKILL LEVEL–FIT BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE
WEATHER I WILL POST UPDATES IN COMMENTS.
BEAR CANISTER REQUIRED IF WE GO INTO YOSEMITE AND RECOMMENDED IF WE ONLY STAY IN ANSEL ADAMS/SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST.
All participants are responsible for their own gear, food and supplies. True for weight savings we can share certain items but that can be determined amongst participants.
As far as meal breakdown, it looks like
3 breakfasts, 4 lunches, 3 dinners and snacks for all 4 days.
COSTS: 5 BUCKS A PERSON TO OFFSET PERMIT COST.
Car pooling and the like to be decided amongst participants.

from a trip report
but it is hard to go wrong. The northern side of the Clark Range is full of open country and campsites everywhere. It is a good place to linger. The area between Post Peak Pass and Fernandez Pass is more forested and comparatively harder to find an excellent campsite.
