Mt.Diablo
I'm still shocked, horrified, dismayed, rattled, by how big and fat these creatures can become. I have no problems with bears; a four foot or longer fat rattler just freaks me out. Yes, I know they're all God's creatures…right up until they bite you.
I hike quite a bit around Mt. Diablo–apt!–and have never seen a rattler. What trail did you see it on, so I can avoid it (kidding). (I have seen a mountain lion there…).
Yep, that IS a big one. I hope you were using your zoom! ;^)
I have to admit, even though I'm living in AZ now, I will never really get used to snakes (and we have more than I care to think about). Oh well, you can take the girl out of Canada, but…
This explains the lack of venom in Canadians.

You haven't read Family Guy's posts….. :-)
So how did it taste? And don't tell us it tasted like chicken :-)

In case you're wondering how that rattler got so fat, seen that mountain lion lately? ;0)
I'm hoping it's the other way around: a big satisfied purr and no more rattler.
The snake was just off the Summit Trail before the first road. I really like snakes!
>Yes, I know they're all God's creatures. . .
"There's a place for all of God's creatures – right next to the mashed potatoes."
Nice pics, that's a whopper! I hardly ever see rattlesnakes in the woods, just copperheads. Last rattler I saw on the trail was in 2012.
Now that's a healthy rattlesnake!
