Swedish man scares off brown bear

Saw that one yesterday. The bear's reaction reminds me of Skurka's encounter where he threw a trekking pole at one.

That said, this guy (IMO) was asking for it and just got lucky. He was deliberately standing quite close to one and filming it. Had the bear been serious, all the noise in the world wouldn't have stopped an attack.

Read the news in Swedish or Norwegian. He and his wife were out training their moose-dog when it was still legal to let dogs off leash (illegal from beginning of March to end of August). They only realized that there was a bear oncoming when the dogs changed the tone of barking which enabled him to get ready.

Contrary to the meme, he wasn’t planning on filming the bear charge. They only wanted to film their dogs’ ability to bay moose.

I see a lot of criticisms of the video in my hunting group, but to be honest, this person is a well-respected bear hunter and probably killed more than most North American hunters ever will in their lifetimes. But he’s getting a lot of flack for not carrying a sidearm… when it’s not even legal to carry a firearm outside of hunting season.

The hunter did the only thing he could do in that situation.

Not sure why Huffington Post called the dog a beagle, because “älghund” translates to “moose-dog”. It’s illegal to use a scenthound for moose. Professional news outlets shouldn’t be using Google Translate.
