I spoke with someone on Pata's live chat just now and they said they did change it from the 10 denier in 2014 to a 15 denier for the 2015 version. Interesting, I wonder how it will compare to the older iterations.

Sounds promising. I really did send them a flaming email that suggested they take the person/committee responsible for the 2012 fabric change out behind the shed and let them have it :)

And they DO have a shed!

Where's Nisely? We need a test!

Windshirts are softshells now?
Is a canvas artic anorak a softshell now too?

I hope it's true but I think it's been 15 denier since the change to less breathable material in 2013. The Fall 2014 hoodless model available on the website lists 15 denier.

So based on the info here I decided too buy one of the 2015 15D Houdinis. I never had the privilege to try one of the earlier ones, so I have no idea if the new fabric is the same as the old. Does anyone know if you could blow air easily through the older ones? The new one is very difficult to blow air through almost feels like a rain jacket. I assume this will change with use though.

I have a Houdini from 2008 or 9. I think it was the very first model. No little breast pocket and weird foam stoppers for the tiny little elastic cords in the hood. You can blow air through it, but not very easily.

Has Patagonia listened and changed the fabric back to the good stuff

Thread size is one factor that influences breath-ability. Calendaring is another factor … a negative factor. I'm not as sure but I think DWR is a negative factor.

+1 that it would be nice if Richard would test this version … who want's to take a chance to buy one and loan it to him?
