Hey, just getting the word out about my new meetup group for beginners. Based out of the cleveland ohio area.
http://www.meetup.com/Beginners-backpacking-group/
I want to make backpacking accessible to anyone and everyone. What will make my group unique is all the money collected through donations and trips ($5) will be directly put back into the club to fund the purchase of gear. The gear will be available to those who need it for a trip. In addition, all gear will be purchased from American cottage industry companies like tarptent or four dogs stoves. It can be expensive to outfit a whole family or purchase gear that won't break your back. So my plan is to bring lightweight, quality gear to those interested in backpacking and providing them with a group to do so with. Thanks for reading.

Steve,

That's a great thing you are doing, hope it takes off. I wanted to throw a suggestion out to you, one of the best custom pack manufactures is right around the corner from you, http://www.zimmerbuilt.com. I have no affiliation with the company, rather I wanted you to be able to connect with local manufacturers, as it's a noble thing you're creating, and there is not much awareness of backpacking in the NE Ohio area, give then great places that existing within just a few short hour drives.

Good Luck to the venture.

Hey thanks for the kind words and the heads up about the packs. I've been slowly contacting various companies about sponsoring us. Traildesigns is actually on board and keeping blems set aside for us. I will definitely contact zimmerbuilt as well. It's been rewarding so far. A lot of people have already thanked me for starting this group. I've even been working with a local backpacking shop who is hosting our meetings and giving backpacking clinics to our members. It's kinda slow going so far but I'm hoping it turns out how I invision.
Thanks again for the encouraging words.
