Is there anything out there better than the Golite model? Anything lighter in weight and as robust (if not better)? If someone can point me to the lightest umbrella that is decently strong, I'd be much obliged.

The Swing Liteflex is the model that is available now and must be the original manufacturer for Golite. You can find them on Amazon and Gossamer Gear is selling them too: http://gossamergear.com/chrome-umbrella.html
The advantage is the one-piece shaft and bows with no locking mechanism. It is simple with no folding hinged bows, springs or mechanisms to fall apart. The downside is the 25" length. It is fine stowed on a backpack, but not as good for general travel.
MontBell makes a sun block umbrella that folds to 9.8" and 8.6oz. It is more mechanically complex and IMHO not as strong: http://www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?p_id=2328312
