Hi all..looking for a tent for the JMT and have narrowed it down to either a TarpTent protrail or the SMD Lunar Solo SE. I am 6ft, 200 pounds and a side sleeper using an Exped UL synmat 7. I've read every review I can find on both tents, and also received useful advise from both manufacturers regarding suitability for someone of my height.

My question is does anyone of a similar or taller height have experience of comparing both of these tents and which was the roomier. I don't have a strong preference either way towards side or front entrance and I'll primarily be using it for the JMT in July.

I've previously had a hilleberg Akto, terra nova laser comp and msr Hubba. No idea why I got rid of any of them to be honest! I found all three slightly on the small side though.

Main concern is whether my feet will hit the ends and if I can sleep on my side kind of like the chalk outline of a dead man on the sidewalk if you know what I mean…I also have a bad back…. I don't necessarily need ultralight either. Ni could lose a few excess pounds around my waist before I start thinking Cuben Fiber.

Not looking for suggestions of hammocks as I have a Warbonnet but am unlikely to take that on the JMT. I have looked at tents higher in the price range including the Lightgear Solong but not sure I want to pay the extra, especially with the AUD – USD exchange rate as it is, which makes things a third more..

Many thanks in advance.
