I’ve been a big fan of MontBell bags and clothing for a number of years now.

I’ve been noticing that MontBell’s cheapest ($99) wp/b jacket — the Particle Jacket made with their Super Hydro Breeze coating — has steadily improved in breathability over the years — from 8,000 to 10,000 to now 15,000 g/m2/24hrs! That would beat out any and all other wp/b laminates and coatings in the market — except for eVENT! Indeed, this would mean that the $99 jacket is just as breathable as MontBell’s top of the line, air permeable Peak Shell jacket — selling for twice the price!

Is this really true? Any actual users out there? Brett? Miguel? Verber?

I have checked one of these out. I doubt it is as breathable as the peak shell which I own. Seems good for the price though. Very good quality for a jacket that cheap.

If the stats are to be believed (and MB's stats have been pretty accurate thus far) — we've got a jacket that is significantly lighter and more breathable than any Goretex Paclite or XCR out there — and at one half to one third the price! Hype? Or MontBell's next big hit — something that will soon be as popular as their Thermawrap jacket?

Nobody has any insights or opinions on this?

Sorry Ben, I haven't even been into Tokyo for over two months so I haven't had a chance to look at any new MB products. Wish I could help.

Ahhhhhh! Ben, you're DANGEROUS! You're an MB vampire, living off the blood of us poor MB pimps!

Ben, very astute observation; it seems to be a great value. I have been trying to find time to get to Montbell in Tokyo; I need to measure a synth. bag for Richard; and now I have another item to check out. How tedious that work and Japanese lessons keep interfering with my hobby.. ;)
