My wife has agreed to come along on a hike in the White Mountains with me this summer, for my 50th birthday. She's a good natural athlete, but doesn't generally enjoy hiking, so I appreciate it.
She has no gear to speak of, and is hard to shop for: she's 4'10" and a little on the stocky/busty side. Does anyone have recommendations for manufacturers who make outdoor stuff (shoes, rain jacket, rain pants, clothes, pack) that are well suited for shorter women? For example, her shoe size is probably a 7 wide.
It's important to me that she be as comfortable as possible, so I don't mind spending a little extra. How do I go about getting her equipped when it's so hard to find anything in a store she can even try on? There's an REI an hour away, but they don't seem to have much (or anything) in the store for petites. There's stuff online I guess, but it would be nice to be able to hone in. For example, apparently Patagonia only sells to skinny people.
