Hey folks,

A lot of you may already know how to do this, or have your own system down! I just thought I would share this info for anyone who might be new to making their own dehydrated meals. Making my own meals is my preference over buying freeze dried, because it is cheaper, more nutritious and I control the serving size. Plus I just really like being able to eat a home cooked meal out there!

This is the way that I prefer to do it, as for me it is the most efficient, easiest to prep in the field and rehydrates nicely with minimal fuel or effort. I put together this video below taking you through the entire process- from cooking and dehydrating at home, to rehydrating out in the bush. This is mostly geared toward people who cook too, but if there's interest I will probably put together another video for people who don't cook. Sometimes I end up joining a trip last minute and have to throw something together fast, or the trip is long and I don't have time to cook and dehydrate all of those meals.

Hope you enjoy!

Alexander,
Another way to measure is to dump the dehydrated food in your pot and cover with water(+ ½"), stir and bring to a boil. It should be ready to eat.

Thanks for the post! Very helpful for someone still trying to figure out the finer points of trail cooking.

^^^

Yes.

It's personal preference, depending on what you want to eat out of, your cozy arrangement, multi-use, etc.
