My local outfitter is selling this pack for $50 minus a $10 off coupon in their ad. Net $40. It weighs 10 or 11 ozs. and has a 1600 cu. in. capacity.

I went to look at it today. It seems to be made pretty well. It has a removal pad in the back that probably weighs a couple of ounces. I could cut the axe loop off and remove the velcro strap and maybe end up with a 6 or 7 ounce pack. My only concern are the shoulder straps. They are pretty thin. I have a sub 5 lb base weight so maybe this wouldn't matter.

Anyone have one of these they can report on?

Looks neat. I like all the little packs but if the shoulder straps are weak/thin then I'd probably be disappointed. Report back if you get it though!

Couple reviews already on the site (one from me)…

There's definitely some stuff you could remove on this pack… If you were really excited you could probably also take out the sleeve that holds the foam back-pad.

I think this is a great pack and for $40 I wouldn't hestitate… It's so light and durable, you'll find some use for it, even if it's not exactly the intended one :)

I used to work in an backpacking shop that sold the pack, and i loved it. It was right around the time that i was getting back into UL and SUL backpacking, and i wish had bought this. I opted for teh osprey atmos, but one of my buddies bought it and i got to use it, and i was pretty ticked that i had not gotten one. its cheap and tough…..get it if you can!

Yeah, we've got one at my local EMS, looks like a real nice pack, good features and that backpanel is nice. i was serisouly considering this pack and then sewing some extra foam to the straps, shouldn't be to tough would it? however, instead i went for the ion, some nice straps there but no top pocket, or any pockets for that matter.

My Scrambler weighs 10.4 ounces for the pack alone, while the foam backpanel wieghs 3.4 additional ounces.

I have used it as a summit/ leader pack and it has proven to be tough and rides nicely in the middle of the back and out of the way for climbing.
The one thing I do not like is the extra zip pocket under the top pocket- I see no need for it, especially given that it has an embroidered MH logo on the INSIDE of the pocket… that is 3 logos on the pack. The lid feels like it weighs as much as the pack body.

Edit: the shoulder straps are thin- I never carry more than water, jacket and some food in it so that is not a huge issue, but they do tend to twist and make a nuisance of themselves when taking on and off.

Be sure to check out Cilogear's offering, it is what I will buy when I trash the Scrambler (tougher farbic, very simple).
