Summer Quilt Options?

I got a super cheap (~$15) synthetic summer sleeping bag from a deal a day site a while ago and cut off the zipper and hood. It weighs almost exactly a pound and keeps me happy and cozy down to 55° or so.

I made mine for under 100$ with M90 and Apex 2.5 and the Sin50 quilt instructions

Thermolite sleeping bag liner are pretty comfy for summer use. 14 oz by itself keeps me fine without a sleeping bag in the summer (above 40-50 degrees).

Liner has more utility in winter, than an extra 50 degree bag would since you can use it modular with your winter bag.

I do have my eye on getting a nice EE quilt, but will be hoping to get more of a 20 degree for high altitude summer use.

Ask James at Helium Hiking Equipment to make you one. He sells a 50F quilt for only $100. He's great to work with and will do custom stuff no problem if you need. I plan on having him make me one myself actually.

I'm a big fan of the Montbell Burrow Bag (there is a synthetic version and a down version which is sold under a different name- I have the synthetic, which cost me like $100.)

It's about 21 oz, so it's not the lightest option there is, but there's a pretty decent nexus of cost and weight, and I've taken it down to 40* or so with a bit of extra clothing. It also packs down to almost nothing.

Summer quilts can obviously get way lighter, but if you're mostly just looking to cover a few trips without spending a ton of money, it's not a bad option.

I have a JRB 45 degree quilt. I brought it and a bivy sack to Hawaii and shared the quilt on the cooler nights with my boyfriend, just using a corner of it. On warmer nights the bivy sack was enough. I usually bring the JRB quilt with my 20 degree quilt to colder places. I can wear the quilt around camp and sleep under both of them at night.
