EDIT: The freebies have been given away, but preorder pricing is live – $80 through this weekend, with a cap set at 20 bags of each type, just in case. Paypal buttons and more information are on my website.

For posterity:

Yep! I’m going to be having seatbags made by another local company here in Flagstaff, so to celebrate I’m giving away three seatbags this week. You have to comment on my Facebook post to win (no obligation to like Rogue Panda Designs on Facebook, but I have more a couple more giveaways planned for the future).

More details about the conditions, etc. are on the Facebook link above. After I’ve given away the three I’m going to do a weekend pre-order sale – $80 shipped.

Who can say no to possibly free!

Are you thinking about making custom top tube bento style bags at all?

Ricky, I've done some top tube bags before, but not a bento bag – what were you thinking?

In general the answer to odd custom projects these days is no (other than custom framebags) since I've got so many custom framebags in the queue and I'm launching seatbags and handlebar rolls soon. But we'll see how things go in the summer once I quit my day job.

Hi Nick: A few questions –

– Is that the same sized seatbag in both pics?
– When the bag is full, does it sway a lot? Do your thighs (or butt) ever hit the full bag while pedaling? (In terms of mountain biking and/or commuting on a mountain bike on rough roads)
– What is the volume of the bag and how wide is it? (My bulkiest item is probably going to be a full-sized iPad, and my longest item would be a Road Morph pump)

I must say I was tempted by your frame bag, but I much prefer seat storage or handle bar storage, so this thread has my attention!

Thanks!

It's a different seatbag in the pictures – the first one is the Highline, which is a bit smaller and designed to work with full-suspension bikes. The second one is a 7" Picketpost (it also comes in a 9" version), so it fits hardtails with at least 7" of exposed seatpost.

The Picketpost is super stable – I think it's the most stable seatbag on the market, from riding with friends who had other seatbags and comparing. But of course it only works if you have enough exposed seatpost and you're riding a hardtail. The Highline will definitely sway more, but I have a couple that have been field-tested, and we haven't had any leg-rubbage yet.

I haven't had time to do a good volume measurement, but when I get the first set of bags in April I'll do a proper scientific test. Probably by filling them with water and stepping on a scale. I would guess 12 liters is a reasonable amount to put in one – you could probably stuff the larger Picketpost with 14-15 liters.

The bag is about 6" wide and 6" tall in the rear portion, and skinnier near the seatpost.

You said you're interested in handlebar storage too, so you should know that I'll be doing this same thing with my handlebar rolls in a week or two – they have the added advantage of being seam sealed for full waterproofness (well, as far as I can tell – the washing machine test is forthcoming). I'll post it on facebook and BPL again, as well.
