A couple of packrafters, who took a trip down the Colorado through Glen Canyon in the 1960s, teamed up with the Glen Canyon Institute and National Geographic to produce this story map. The area looks simply stunning. Enjoy.

Netflix has a great documentary, Monumental: David Brower's Fight for Wild America, which has some great footage of Glen Canyon before it was wiped out.

It wasn't 'wiped out'; it was flooded. Though I am not one of them, some people prefer it flooded for great boating opportunities… as well as the drinking water.

Glen Canyon pre-damming is featured prominently in the Patagonia documentary, Damnation. It's on Netflix last time I checked.

Plenty of boating opportunities beforehand. And much more accessible for the average citizen. Water was a lot cleaner then too.

While Glen Canyon will surely return, "wiped out" is when speaking of human time scales a very accurate phrase.

Muir was unable to save Hetch Hetchy Valley, only fifteen miles from Yosemite, which rivaled it's beauty. A true stain on one of our most beloved National Parks, yet a real boon for San Francisco real estate.
