is there such a thing? Thanks to the SoCal wind, I had several different straw hats during my thru hike. I'd like to find a quality one.
Thanks!

I don't think so. I find my straw hats at hardware stores usually, for yard work. Last about a year or so, no matter what kind/style I get.
I would recommend changing the bead to a cord lock.

Have you ever seen Panama Hats? They are made of straw and quite extravagant. I literally googled your subject line. Mind-blowingly, I found hats made of straw that cost $1000. For that, I thank you.
My coworkers in LowCal – geologists and engineers working at toxic waste sites in God-forsaken locations – have adopted the large straw hats worn by gardeners.
They are pretty large, so I'd expect you'd need to MYOG your own, more secure chinstrap.
David Morgan (http://www.davidmorgan.com) has a variety of Panama Hats (straw) and other summer hats at not-too-obnoxious prices.
Out of curiosity – why straw? I'm happy with my Tilley Airflo for summer use, but can always be seduced by good gear stories.
I guess Tilley's just aren't my style and I get full coverage with a straw hat. I was hoping there's something like a straw hat but made of bamboo or something (I'm not wearing one of those Asian conical hats, ha)
Have you seen Riverz Straw Hat?
It is made from a polypropylene “TechStraw”, easily withstands getting wet no problem, provides good sun protection, and has a CoolMax sweatband. I’ve had mine for well over 10 years, its had a ton of use during that time and it is still going strong.
Pricy as hell … but worth it, if you put it to use.
Solumbra has some straw hats. A little on the spendy side but they offer SPF 100.
