NB: I hope I've picked the right forum – as this is about modifying existing gear. If not, feel free to move to the correct forum.
I recently purchased a ILE Apex daypack (http://ilequipment.com/collections/all/products/apex-daypack) in XPAC material.
It's a very nicely made pack – however, the shoulders straps are *really* uncomfortable on me. (It feels like the straps are constantly slipping off, and I need to hunch forward to keep it on).
I thought it was because I'm a smaller build, but Eric (ILE) mentioned it's also because the pack is quite small, and my shoulders are large-ish.
I was hoping I could canvas the collective wisdom of backpack makers here, to see if there were any ways of fixing this – either by modifying the bag (rather, getting Eric to…lol), or in the way I'm wearing it.
I have another backpack, a Timbuk2 Especial Tres which is much more comfortable on my shoulders – I took some comparison shots, in case that sheds any light on why the Apex is more uncomfortable for me.
I'm 172cm (5'7").
Here are photos of the Apex backpack:

Here are photos of the Especial Tres backpack:

Comparison shot of both:
I noticed that the distance between the shoulder straps on the Especial Tres (70 mm) is much wider than on the Apex (35 mm) – I'm not sure what the significance of that is.
The straps on the Especial Tres seem "straighter", but that may just be me – once again, not sure what the significance of that is.
Let me know if you need any measurements from either me or the bags.
